Electric Meter Technician II

This position will be located in: Flexible within the United States - This role involves travel to various project locations throughout the United States.

Job Summary

Works as a team member with the goal of becoming proficient in the field of metering.  Troubleshoots issues on electric meters.  Inspects and verifies meter wiring and conditions of all equipment involved.  Removes and replaces existing electric meters.  Takes and records voltages.  Attends daily “Tailgate Meetings” with all involved personnel to maintain safety and guidance through the various conditions. All projects are field oriented and very little time is spent indoors.  

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Observes all conditions at the time of the service:
    • Hazardous conditions require immediate contact with utility personnel and the lead technician on the project.
  • Deploys AMR/AMI meters and equipment
    • Removes and replaces existing electric meters 
    • Takes and records voltages
    • Takes required photos of various conditions at the location. 
    • Notes all non-hazardous anomalies to assist utility personnel in determining their next step.
    • Inspects and verifies meter wiring and conditions of all equipment involved
    • Verifies accuracy of electric meters and all connected equipment
    • Determines the correct billing multiplier is in use i.e., Voltage and Current Transformers
    • Verifies ratio accuracy of current transformers under customer loads
  • Test polyphase meters and verify current transformers, voltage transformers and multipliers
  • Perform testing on:
    • Current Transformer Accuracy Tests 
    • Panel Meters
    • Volt Meters
  • Watthour Standard Certification
  • Watthour Test Bench Certification
  • Conducts full ANSII C-12-meter accuracy tests and calibration on high voltage installations. i.e., substations and utility generation sites
  • Inspection and testing of substation and large power installations
  • Troubleshoots metering installations to determine losses when equipment failure or installation errors are discovered
  • Follows and complies with all required safety standards and supports a safe work environment.
  • May act as lead technician on any job that requires more than one technician
  • Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of company provided vehicle (e.g., oil changes, tires, belt changes etc.) in accordance with company standards

Non-essential Functions

  • Capable of effectively communicating with the utilities department, customers, and other internal employee-owners when needed 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or other designate
  • Flexible with travel locations and duration as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • High School degree or GED
  • 3+ years work experience with electricity
  • Requires a valid driver's license    
  • Experience with basic hand tools
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Electrical training or schooling would be beneficial

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent customer service skills include being competent, accurate, responsive, and engaged
  • Ability to travel    
  • Must be a safe driver
  • Ability to learn to work safely with electricity
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently 
  • Ability to work in an extremely efficient manner with a very minimal error rate
