Job Summary
The Building Information Modeling (BIM) Specialist supports the delivery of Building Information Modeling (BIM) services by producing and coordinating digital construction models used for project planning, coordination, and execution. This role collaborates with internal teams and external partners to ensure BIM deliverables meet project requirements, quality standards, and customer expectations. Reporting to the BIM Manager, the BIM Specialist contributes to consistent service execution while supporting the ongoing development and adoption of standardized BIM processes, tools, and workflows across the organization.
Responsibilities
Essential functions
- Creates, maintains, and audits Revit models for electrical and multi-discipline coordination, ensuring model health and compliance with BIM standards.
- Leads or supports clash detection and resolution using Navisworks, including running clash tests, managing rulesets, and tracking issues to closure.
- Participates in coordination meetings with internal and external projects; prepares model progress reports, documenting issues, and updating action items..
- Prepares BIM Execution Plan inputs, progress reports, and project deliverables.
- Manages BIM models, sheets, views, exports, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Supports creation of shop drawings, annotated views, model-based takeoffs, and installation packages.
- Performs model setup, template application, systems verification, and exports configurations for project kickoff and ongoing coordination.
- Executes clash detection workflows, generates reports, assigns issues, and assists with issue tracking.
- Integrates engineering inputs, prefabrication workflows, and point cloud data when applicable.
- Provides proactive communication and coordination with clients, engineers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure alignment and timely issue resolution.
- Ensures accuracy, quality control, and adherence to Border States BIM standards, naming conventions, and workflows.
Non-essential functions
- Assists in development of BIM standards, templates, family libraries, SOPs, and training materials.
- Supports manufacturing and prefabrication deliverables as needed.
- Contributes to process improvement efforts, automation opportunities, and lessons learned documentation.
- Travels to project sites as required for coordination or validation activities.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designate.
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant AEC field (engineering technology, construction management, or equivalent work history).
- 5+ years experience in BIM or VDC roles (GC, subcontractor, engineering, or related AEC environment).
- Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks Manage, Autodesk Construction Cloud (BIM 360), and Bluebeam.
- Demonstrated experience with multi-trade or MEP coordination.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including client-facing interaction.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote, service-based environment.
- Strong organizational skills and comfort working in a billable project environment.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
