Job Summary

Leads and is responsible for successful development and execution of the strategic Construction demand generation plan. Creates, communicates and implements a strategic sales and marketing plan that provides significant competitive differentiation, bottom and topline growth, and long-term sustainability and accountability.

Responsibilities

Essential functions

  • Develops and implements the demand generation strategy for the construction core market. 
  • Anticipates complex issues, challenges, and opportunities, and ensures alignment with broader corporate strategy in the creation and execution of the construction demand generation strategy.
  • Communicates the construction market strategy and its relationship to the organization's mission, vision and values; clarifies the actions needed to implement it within the construction core market; motivates people to commit to these actions and to doing extraordinary things to achieve the organization's business goals.
  • Develops and gains agreement with annual business plans for the construction core market, ensures alignment with strategy; quantifies business outcomes (i.e., revenues or other Key Performance Indicators (SVKPIs)); details expense and headcount budgets; and develops business cases for key projects.
  • Identifies the capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging business needs of the construction core market. Evaluates current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritize development activities. Motivates others to develop their capabilities and fulfill their personal potential. Builds capabilities elsewhere in the organization through mentoring and other informal methods.
  • Manages and reports on the performance of the construction core market; sets appropriate performance objectives for direct reports, holds them accountable for achieving the objectives; and takes appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the attainment of annual business objectives.

  • Encourages the sales force to participate in professional leadership and training courses and events.
  • Supports and advocates industry participation on advisory boards or supplier councils to ensure Border States helps shape and influence how supply chain impacts the industry.
  • Provides opportunities to network and be exposed to new ideas in industry at sanctioned functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, marketing or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • MBA preferred
  • 7+ years of sales and marketing leadership experience, with 3+ years of upper sales management experience
  • Experience managing mid-level managers in remote locations, construction distribution preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Expert with Microsoft Word or PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with Customer Relationship Management programs
